Adolphe Mouron Cassandre (January 24, 1901 – June 17, 1968) was an influential Ukrainian-French painter, commercial poster artist, and typeface designer. This is a link to a biography.I've always quite liked Art Deco, which is what drew me to this chap in the first place, but it is proving difficult to find much information on him, other than the boring stuff that you can find on wikipedia.
It also doesn't help that his official website is totally nackered, so that's the first of the few artists I found interesting written off.
